Hi All,
Our council are looking at charging us for our plots on the basis of Small Medium or Large.
Up untill now we have always been charged per sq m which I think is the fairest way. I have emailed our local allotment officer pointing out that the proposed system of charging would be unfair as plots are going to vary in size. I for instance have two plots which are both 30m in lenght but one is a 2 metres wider than the other. As they will both be in the large bracket I feel its unfair to be paying the same for both.
I am interested if any of you have your plots charged in this way or are yours priced per metre sq. Would appreciate feedback on this.
Steve
We pay whole, half, third, quarter. And yes the plots are not all the same size. It is a bit of pot luck. I have two halves one bigger than the other, so they seem to average out. Seems fairer to charge by area especially if the measuring has already been done.
Birmingham City Council charges -
Mini plot - up to 100 sq.yds. £40
Small plot - 101 - 200 sq.yds. £50
Standard - 201 - 400 sq yds. £75
Half price for over 60 years of age.
Golborne allotments private, 22p per sq metre :happy7:
Havant Borough Caoncil.
Per square metre - 33p
Next year - 34p.
Goes up 1 pence per square metre every year.
Parish council-run site.
Up to 5.5 poles (circa. 113 sq metres) is regarded as a standard-sized plot, the current rent is £15.
Over 5.5 poles the rent is crudely pro-rated according to size, eg 10 poles is about £30.
Yes I know that the arithmetic does not quite stack up here but I am just the messenger!
I gave up half of my plot and am still charged the same for half.:( £21 per year. I think the council only has one price.
Plot rent £9.50 per pole
Water charge £1.35 per pole
just checked out our only site which is privately owned and they charge £2/sqm way out of my price range :BangHead:
