Les. Frustrated treasurer....
Start of the financial year (April) privately owned site. We pay total of £50/year for the paddock, then split between the 10 plot holders.
regards Ian
Plot holders officially have to pay their rent to our association by 1st Oct, although in reality this does not happen as bills tend to be sent out a bit late.
The association does not pay any rent to the council, instead they receive a small grant, this happens on the 1st April.
We pay by end of March - which coincides with our AGM..but we have nothing to do with the council - we run our own association.
October
(self-managed, council-owned)
My rent is due 1 October.
Bill
Our rent is due on the 1st January , and you have till 31 March to pay it or let your plot go.

Sunningdale Allotments are run by the Parish Council.
The allotment year runs from March to Feb.
Rent renewal letters are sent out at the beginning of Feb. Rent should be paid by 1st March.

Our Parish Council collects twice yearly, April and October.

rent due end of April you then have 40 days to pay up or give up
bill's out March, pay by 1st April, or give it up.
run by town council.
Enfield council used to bill us in January, but changed to April 1st last year.
We get the notice in january and have to pay by end of Feb.
owned by Barnsley council the rent is due in November £69.00 this year
cudsey
The same as others 1st Jan.
If January suits you and the committee collect the rent in January, put it into the association account and pay the council in October. You may as well get what little intrest it makes.
I dont see the council being bothered about when you collect but they will be about when it has to paid.
Ours is paid in October. We got it changed 3 years ago. Reason being, when it was paid in April, by the time you finished chasing people who never paid and had to serve notice, it was June before the plot could be reallocated and the weeds were usually several feet high by this stage. Allocating in October means if we have to serve notice we can still allocate whilst the plot is dormant and newbies have a couple of months before the sowing and planting season to prepare the allotment for how they want it, instead of trying to clear, sow, dig and plant at the same time. it can all be a bit daunting for newbies so slow time preparation is a good thing. This has certainly been to the benefit of the site and it now remains relatively clean. October is also the time when plotholders tend to give up their allotment, after they have harvested the majority of crops. Works well for us and I would recommend it.
In Newbury bills are sent out in February with rents due March 1st.
Great response ,,, cheers :icon_cheers: , I have a good picture of the pay days now , It is amazing all the different setups we have up and down the country , what seems to be important is a band of hard working committee + members to get stuck in and make whatever system is imposed on them.... work.
Many thanks . Les

The council allotments here have 01 October as the start of the year, which in theory allows them to do as you say. In practice, with several wet winters / springs they've been reluctant to evict those who (fairly) say it has been too wet to tackle their plots, so many are rather a mess now. I'm hoping that, with our plotholders association helping, we will be able to get this addressed this season. We've got waiting lists, so those who aren't going to use their plots should now move on.
