Title: Pampas Grass
Post by: jammyd on March 09, 2005, 09:33:48
Hi all, does anyone know of any way of controlling Pampas grass (apart from burning it back)?
My boss has asked me (yes, I'm an ass kisser :-* ) as she knows I'm into my gardening, but my knowledge doesn't go as far as ornamental grasses.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers,
James

Either a strimmer or a sickle is as good a way as any. If not then you are into secateurs and very thick gloves. Take care the leaves have inward pointing barbs, you can put your hand in , but rip it to shreds taking it out again. We cut ours back to the ground every third year and it regrows ok.

Try a hedgecutter or even a chainsaw and take down to about 6" off the ground.  Failing that gelignite and plant something better.   ;D
