Title: Copy/Rip DVDs - Software recomendations needed
Post by: Garden Manager on March 14, 2013, 10:45:02
I have several homemade DVDs that i want to transfer or copy to my PC so that i can watch the programmes on devices without a DVD drive (Tablet PC mainly), so i need to find some suitable software that will copy the programmes on the DVDs into a format that is playable in Windows media Player or the Android equivalent (either mpg avi or wmv).

I have been looking around and there seems to be loads of software out there for copying/ripping DVDs but many of them seem to be for DVD to DVD copying not DVD to PC copying. Whilst i am a bit wary of freeware, i am reluctant to pay for high powered and expensive software that does more than what i want to do. Trial versions are OK but by definition very limiting.

What i would like is some ideas or recomendations for free or very low cost DVD to PC copying software that is easy to use.

Thanks

I use Freemake.

It is free and very handy - I have yet to find a downside.  Converts all sorts of video to lots of formats..

I dont know nowt about PC Tablets but if it has a USB port why not down load the movies to a memory stick or card. you wont be taking up space on the tablet.

The one Barry sugested is as good as any. It works well and its free.

since posting original message i have found this one

http://www.freemovieconverter.net/ (http://www.freemovieconverter.net/)

Which looks very similar to the freemake one suggested above. It seems to do virtualy everything i wanted to do and more, is easy to use and is possibly quicker than some pay/trial apps i have looked at. Early days though so i will be trying out the freemake one as well

Thanks
