Anyone doing it?
Not been on here for ages and found and old post about it I answered.
Still not got round to it!!!
My son and I tried a Tomato plant in Deep Water Culture (A bucket with copious amounts of bubbles) a couple of years ago in the greenhouse.
I have to say it worked very well. The tomatoes even tasted nice.
Its a lot of fuss for a single plant though, and would have been better if we had done it with three or more and used up more greenhouse space. But as a test, it was fine. :-)
Not really hydroponic but look up earth box (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bhW5hf09ak) and global buckets. (http://www.globalbuckets.org/) This year I have been making global buckets from plaster buckets from wickes cost £10 for two buckets but should last a few years.
I made one a few years ago and everything I have put in it has done really well and it is less work watering.
I have also used Autopots (http://www.autopot.co.uk/) for a few years that are more hydroponic, but only because it is less effort watering and feeding. Just 15-20 mins every few weeks filling with water adding feed and altering PH of the water.
If you have an allotment polly tunnel these would be great for making watering easier.
