Title: Pigeons and crocuses
Post by: takin a leek on February 19, 2013, 13:59:55
Hi All,

Has anyone come across pigeons eating crocus flowers?

I discovered a blob of pigeon poo next to one nibbled flower head and am putting 2 and 2 together. I have not seen them deicmate any in the local parks though. Slugs are still suspects!

I haven't seen/noticed them munching crocuses...but I'm not surprised...at the moment they are 'hoovering' up anything and everything that is even little bit adible for them. But, luckily there is some first bits of 'natural' greenery coming up now  :icon_cheers: Hopefully that will offer those birds some alternatives to munch and they leave our flowers alone.

Something eats crocus flowers; sparrows are sometimes blamed. The poo might or might not be coincidence; at best it's circumstantial evidence.

Sparrows will eat the yellow ones but don't touch other colours.  I don't know of any other wildlife that eats crocus flowers, and certainly not pigeons.
