I'm conducting an experiment as part of a science project for school, any predictions/votes gratefully received, thanks
Also try putting the seed (dry in the packet) into the freezer for a few days before sowing.
I've never found it to effect the yield, so I don't worry about it
QuoteI've never found it to effect the yield
I have had it so bad that the pods did not develop at all.
Welcome to A4A Beejarman. I hope your project goes well.
I've had it that bad as well, on a variety which appeared to be particularly susceptible. Aquadulce Claudia has the odd susceptible plant which ends up completely smothered, but it still yields.
I've had it that bad too - to the point where no pods have developed at all.
I find avoidance is better than cure!
I don't sow too early and I nip out the tops after five sets of flowers, not six!
I have found that if I risk six I often get caught out!
Thanks for all your answers, and the welcome digerdoo!
Would be amazing if anyone else could vote after viewing. Thank you
I don't nip out anything at all. Apart from that one time, the plants ignore the aphids and crop regardless. On that occasion, they never got as far as the 5th set of flowers, never mind the 6th!
The one that works for me is to put down ant bait stations. The reason why the Blackfly get to be a problem is cos the ants are guarding them from predators, take away the ants and you solve the problems.... I very rarely have any signs of infestation at all as long as I keep on top of the ants near the beans. I haven't voted as you don't have a "None of the above" box.

I have to agree that the ants appear to farm the aphids.
why not just give them a spray with provado ultimate bug killer.?? or is that not allowed?
