I love dried mint! Can anyone advise me on which is the best type of mint for drying? And come to think of it, what the best way to dry mint is?
A.
Dries well between tissues in the microwave. Or in the bottom of the AGA.
Choice depends upon your taste?
I have apple mint, which has a lovely mild sweet flavour. I use it fresh, though.
Yes - I think the flavour would be lost in processing.
I think loss of favour is why it's commercially freeze dried which is supposed to retain flavour. Best fresh though innit. I freeze it though to use when I've got none though and it's ok
not a fan of mint in food but i love peppermint dried and used as tea :)
we used to have peppermint in the garden back home - a smaller plant, smaller leaves than your average mint, and stronger aroma so enough left in the dried leaves.
Decadence - a sugar syrup strongly flavoured with fresh mint, ice cold. Dip leaves of a VERY fresh Cos lettuce into syrup ----- and eat.
All best - Gavin
I have lots of different types of mint but my favourites are peppermint, apple mint and lemon balmy mint. Gorgeous in drinks!
Peppermint is great with black tea and sugar ..mmhhh
Thanks everyone, I think peppermint is what I'm after. I use both fresh and dried. Dried mint has a unique warmth and intensity whereas fresh mint is ... well ... fresh!
