Went to the allotment yesterday to find purple sprouting Broccoli and about 50 spring cabbages decimated, particularly the broccoli, now I've had this sort of damage from pigeons before but not this bad, and not over such a short period, as I had checked them just after the last snowfall.
The guy next door reckons it was seagulls,
Welcome to A4A. We have seagulls around but they do not seem to attack my PSB. My main problem is with deer. When there is snow around there is nothing for them to eat, so some PSB sticking up is just the ticket.
Gulls are more common here as we are surrounded by water, but they are not vegetarian, They will raid a bit of freshly dug ground for the grubs and worms, but never the crops. If your neighbour has seen white birds, blame somebody who has a pidgeon loft or dovecote nearby. Gulls are good for the ground, but a pain in the backside if you have a goldfish pond.
The more i come to think about it, this does not look like bird damage, there's too much damage.
