Title: Moving a Kiwi fruit bush?
Post by: Jayb on January 19, 2013, 09:36:55
I'm not sure of the best thing to do, I have a Kiwi Jenny which I'd planted in the wrong spot, so it can't stay where it is. It's been planted about 3-4 years, I cut it right back for last years growing season, so the top bit looks fairly manageable. Is it ok to just dig it up now and replant? How much root ball does it need? And what should I do about pruning it?

I doubt there is anything special about it...just dig as much rootball up as you can manage to transplant. If it has good amount of top growth, I would reduce some down to few inches and leave some longer ones as they are..tying them into new position. Once the new growth start, if the longer stems should look 'upset' from the move, you can always cut them back later date.

Thanks, I thought it should be fairly straightforward but I think I read somewhere you shouldn't be too harsh on it in one go or it will sit and sulk? (that's a bit hard to believe) hence cutting it back one season and moving the next  (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-basic/unsure.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
