Title: What disinfectant to clean bird feeders
Post by: rokerman1973 on January 13, 2013, 08:20:22
Hi, about to clear out, clean and refill my many bird feeders today ready fofr this very cold snap.
RSPB states they should e cleaned with a mild disinfectant but no indication of which one or to the strength. Could anyone advise. I don't want to harm them while trying to look after them with feed and treats. Many thanks.  :help:

You can clean the feeders just with plain water or use bit of washing up liquid if needed and to desinfect..fill a bucket with warm water adding bit of bleach and let them soak for 20 mins or so....rinse the bleach water off and the job is done.

I use CITROX on my bird feeder bits!

Thanks guys - had only saw the Duke's post before I went out and washed, soaked in diluted bleach and thoroughly rinsed.
All done now, waiting for the hungry small birds to get there ahead of the pidgeons!
