Hello, I usually buy my Potatoes from Alan Roman, but it looks like he has been bought out by Thompson and Morgan who I don't really want to deal with.
Can anyone recommend where to buy from?
Thank you,
Martin.
Brookside nursery - Ansty in Leicester they have a huge selection and you buy by the spud ,so one of each variety if you fancy, also peas and beans by weight so a great deal cheaper than any packet.
They appear to be family run ,always helpful.
Same here but if they give you free postage they will work out the cheapest I have been buying from JBA Seed poatoes on line great prices postage is good as well £3/50p for up to 25kg seed is good no complaints  R
Jba for me as well.
If I didn't buy local then JBA would be for me, I never knew about Alan Romans, I had to go and check for myself. :drunken_smilie:
Thanks for the replies, looked at JBA, the delivery time of January to MAY! put me off been waiting for them to reply to an email.
Just need them to confirm they will be sent out in next couple of weeks.
All the best,
Martin.
I'm waiting for a reply from JBA, too. Our allotment is putting together an order and we want to know if there are any shortages
I have ordered from D L Brown. Firstly because they have the seed potatoes I want and secondly they are delivering in January. This gives me time to buy elsewhere if by anychance they are unable to deliver my complete order.
I get mine from the allotment shed.
We all have a quidshop or a wilko nearby, dont we?????

How much are they per kg?
I normally get mine from a nursery called 'Hawgrips' in Enderby, Leicester. They have just arrived and are £2.25 per kg and you pick the amount you want as well, rather than buying a bag. I noticed they are also in Wilkinsons too now.
Ansty nursery charge £1.95 or £1.50 per kg if over ten kgs ,they have some in already.
I used to get mine from T&M (never again) and Garden Organic at their potato days, but for the last 2 years have bought Wilkinson's finest and have had reallly good results.
From my local horticultural society trading shed at £1-25 per kg, any quantity, with a choice of 11 varieties.

Thanks markfield rover
I buy mine from our local lottie shop. Loads of choice at good prices, cheap as chips. Kings seeds have loads to choose from. Is there a local lottie shop near by where you could go. Most will sell to you without having to have one of their allotments.
Our local lottie shop sells in small quantities...one potato, 2 potato, 3 potato 4.... :kermit: trouble is I would need to be a member...at £5 a year.
I think it depends on what varieties you are seeking- some are easy to buy some not and so you may have to pay P&P and buy online.
Harlequin is my fave but hard to buy except from T&M.
Vitelotte and annabelle my favourite 1st early are scarce too.
Bought some brilliantly cropping charlottes from poundland a few years ago - I don't personally think the supplier difference is risky.

Went there today and got 10kg. Will get the more rarer ones from Ryton in a fortnight.
We ordered Kestrel and Foremost from Moles Seeds and at this late stage they tell us they have none.
Last year they failed to deliver on Int Kidney.
Never again,
Seed sets are in at our lottie shop. Bought some today at £2.40 for 3kg. Ended up getting mine, brother-in-laws, mother-in-laws partners, dads and uncles. Apparently the supplier honoured the agreement on price when the order was submitted last year. No doubt the hike will hit us next year but for now, smiles all round and they are selling fast.
Bought mine yesterday from my local Nursery. You can buy them per seed potato, sell by the kilo, can't remember how much per kilo. However what I needed cost £4.14 as there was a sale with 20% off. The equivalent through Marshalls including postage and packing would have been around £17. Okay have to factor in fuel to get the couple of miles there but had an enjoyable trip out with TOH with coffee and cake. Filled a very wet morning nicely.
I've been replanting my own, plus a few I always find in the road at harvest time next to farm land, and from our CSA. I've read that eventually potatoes will get viruses and produce less, but for the last four years I've had no problems, and I hope that mixing as many varieties as possible will help. And this year I intend to also grow some from true seed. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has tried this, and whether it eventually fails catastrophically or just produces less over time?
Managed to get the kestrel on line, we've had to pay top whack this year , we'll have to make sure we get a good harvest to make it worth it. Our potato day is in Skelmersdale on 2nd feb so, we'll go for a look but have all our basics now, phew :happy7:
You need to watch the yield if you're saving your own; eventually it may drop, which is a sign of virus. The big danger is that you may be perpetuating blight, which overwinters in the tubers.

I've had generally good results from Poundland too over the years, with shallots and seeds as well as spuds.
I bought some Kestrel and Red Duke Of Duke in my local Clockhouse Nursery yesterday along with Onions and Shallots, they had a great selection, I thought with the poor crops last year there wouldn't be much in and the Kestrel were only £3.35 for 3 kg thats only 5 pence dearer than last year, can't be bad can it. :icon_cheers:
We are selling seed potatoes in our Stores at £1 per kilo.
Our shed has stopped selling seed spuds - to be honest they never came till very late any way. Do you sell to other allotmenteers? If so what varieties do you have? May
Well after getting them from various commercial suppliers over the years from standard seed companies to producers in Scotland and Potato Days at Ryton I usually now end up getting them from a good local garden centre that sells them by the bucket rather than weight. That way I don't end up with more spuds than I need and can pick the ones I like.
By the way, whilst the local allotment society may charge £5 per year, they usually end up cheaper than the seed companies or garden centre spuds as they buy in bulk. Also they are varieties that should do well your in local conditions!
