I've just ordered myself one of these http://www.firsttunnels.co.uk/polytunnel.asp?cbowidth=12 (http://www.firsttunnels.co.uk/polytunnel.asp?cbowidth=12), a 12x35 foot one.
Just wondering if anyone else has one from this place and how hard they are to erect? I've watched all the videos and they make it look easy but are they really?
"Is erection hard?".......Best topic name ever!!
Well!! :toothy10:
More prosaically .. I'm 73 yrs old and getting more disabled due to knackering my back.
5+ years ago I and one capable lad put up a 3x4 first tunnel. It wasn't too hard and we put in storm plates and side ventilation. The doors are rubbish and I have made and replaced the most used one. Choose a warm day so the plastic is supple and goes easily. Follow instructions to the letter. If stuck ring up. They are most helpful.
Mind you one day I shall probably get 2 of their guys over to completely recover it and upgrade the side ventilation which hasn't stood the test of time. They've upgraded now and you should have the new version. But you will 2 people or you can't stretch or handle the cover properly. Have fun...

That's why I clicked on it :toothy10:
The title was chosen because I have a big one coming next week and I just wondered how hard it was going to be.
Should this topic be moved to Watershed? :tongue3:
:toothy10: :toothy10: :toothy10:
Our 40x14' communal one took 6, 3 either side. It was a bit windy but needed 2 to hold it either side and 2 to fill the trenches. Took quite a lot of doing :toothy10:
I shall be interested to hear how you get on.
In the polytunnel book they do recommend as stated above it should be a reasonably warm still day when putting the polythene on. They also say allow three days to erect a larger one like yours and a minimum of 3 people.
Thanks Manic, mines not much smaller and there's two of us... We watched all the videos about it last night and it gave my wife nightmares. I only had a little one at our last house so the size of this one made her eyes water.
I'll take photo's and a time lapse if I remember.

I think I may be pushing my luck if I put that suggestion to the Mrs :argue:
" I have a big one coming next week and I just wondered how hard it was going to be"......Really?!!!
As mentioned only on a calm day. A fellow plotholder nearly took off with his erection. I thought we would have to rescue him from the nearby roof one minute and bit later unwrap him as it whirled round him. I sympathise with your wife having nightmares.

Best laugh I've had all day!
8 years ago, when I was in a fit state, we put up a 30x12 between the 2 of us. We erected the frame, we had dug the trenches first. Cover over, bury one side. Pull like mad to tighten the skin and bury a bit at a time. then do the adjusting bars. That skin is still going and it was erected in winter on a still, frosty day :toothy10:

It certainly attracted my attention, and I don't even have a greenhouse! :laughing6:
It arrived, a 12x35 foot one. This lot and three large boxes in the garage...

Erection is imminent.
My 20 x 10 "first tunnel" cover now into it's 13th year,Was erected on a warm May day, Put up
when poly is really supple ,get it on as tight as possible . On a cold day it'will be as taught as a drum.
I managed to get this much erected but there's far too much white stuff about now for me to carry on. Got three more hoops to go on the end yet.
This weather is getting boring now!

Exciting stuff, looks good so far :toothy10:
It's been an absolute doddle to be honest. Waiting for the weather has been the hardest part. Might be a different story when it comes to skinning it though :)

Be interested in seeing how you do it. Ours is coming up to 8 yrs old, the skin will need replacing in a couple of years and will have to be on the wooden frame system :happy7:
Sorry Mal I can't help BUT I did giggle when I read your post :drunken_smilie:, sorry.

And keep off from ginger for a while.. :drunken_smilie: :coffee2: :tongue3: :laughing3:
I will take your advice good life but still had a little giggle in Tatton Park today, :icon_cheers:.
What medication are you on, Janet. And, where can I get some :toothy10:
Managed to get a partial timelaps of the polythene going on but it was an iphone app and the phone died before we finished.

There's a lot of plastic there.
It is a thing of beauty. Especially when you've waited 30 years to get one. Mrs ordered me some reclaimed Australian Jarrah hardwood railway sleepers for the beds today.

Looking good plot 69. I had a chiuckle at both the post title and your plot number.
Plot 69 was indeed my plot number when I had an allotment before we moved. Don't have an allotment now, just a big garden and a lot of work starting over again.
I had something else to chuckle about. Eldest Granddaughter took her test for the 3rd time. Her dad new she'd failed by her face BUT she got in the car & slammed the door & said to her dad, 'Stupid examiner, there's no way I was going to hit that car'. I'm so glad she failed :blob7:.
The erection looks good :drunken_smilie:.
Looks great we just put or polythene over last Thursday you need a warm day so the polythene will stretch better.Have you got some hotspot tape as well that is a must.
lol :happy7:
Nearly 1400 views! Good to see we're all dirty-minded b*ggers on here!
I have to say I'm honestly quite jealous of your erection and I wish mine was as big. Seriously.

Yes, I'm quite proud of it. It fills a very large hole that would otherwise be empty... Down the end of the garden I mean.
Three months later and it's still snowing... At least the tunnel is up and running.

It looks fantastic Plot 69, my OH has a small erection to put on our raised bed......I hope its big enough :toothy6:
