Not sure what birdie this is, so am asking you for help in identifying it. Birdie was spotted in allotment up in sunny north-west Wales today.
My guess is that it is a wren, but then they are so timid dunno how you could get that close to it, lovely photo nevertheless ;)
Hi MV
Looks a bit like a Willow Warbler. Often seen on P ussy Willow trees in spring. Did you hear it sing ? :)
I decided to investigate the digital zoom (there is 12x optical and with the digital, the zoom was at 36x)
I didn't hear it sing - just found it sitting there.
I don't think it is a wren - there is an excellent birdie site - www.westmidlandbirdclub.com and they have pics of wrens there. Trawled through kingfisher field guide to the birdies of britain and europe, but with drawings rather than photos, it is hard to judge. Have posted other birdie pics in gallery that were taken today.
I thought he looked similar to this image.

I am still not convinced. I took a picture moments before but the focusing etc was abyssmal and it was just about recognisable as a bird. The tail in that one was also down.

It's a Dunnock. Nicely fluffed up to keep warm. Not a Wren, too big and wrong shape and is too fat for a Willow Warbler, they are quite slim birds.
Hope this helps! :)
Dunnock know if it's a Dunnock ;D but I found a lovely picture of one. 8) ;D

Looking at that picture Roy, I think it could be a dunnock - I did photograph one on the plot which had the grey markings, but this birdie looked rather fluffed up. Thankyou Yellow Petals.
Thonk i'd be fluffed up too - chilly again today or what. At my lottie, though, lots of birds out singing in the sunshine.
I think its a dunnock too. We get them in our garden and they tend to move about in a hopping motion.
Deffo not a wren as they are v.small with upright small tail.
debs ;)
I thought it was a Dunnock as soon as I saw the pic, before I read the replies.
Nice little thing isn't it. My local garden centre has loads of them in their bird feeding area of their garden. You can sit with a cuppa and watch them through the window, they're only a window pane away. Yes that close! The garden centre staff leave a bird ident book on the tables so you can do a bit of research but also have some laminated photos of the most common visitors stuck onto the windows. I love it,its one of the nicest ways to drink a cup of coffee!
I disagree with 'dunnock' . A Dunnock has a greyish head and bib. I thought it looked like a Pippet of some sort so looked up my book and a Tree Pippet seems to fit. Could be wrong though.
It's a Dunnock. Fluffed up but looking as though s/he's enjoying the sun!
I would like to second thta. It's definitely a dunnock.
:)
i'll third it!
its a dunnock-sure as eggs is eggs..... ;D
Wren I would think. At this time of year will prob. be a couple working together, more often than not working on or around the ground.
Great little things arn't they.
chalky ::)
Too fat for a wren. Also it is missing the dark line through the eyes. Defnitely a dunnock!
LOL
:)
I'd go for reed warbler. Wrong beak for a dunnock.
I'd go for a blackbird in disguise, never was good at ornathology( or spelllinngg)
It's a Dunnock <sigh>
I think its a bald eagle. ;D ;D ;D ;D.

On closer inspection I think you're right!
Yellow Petals
I DO love your little fairy and the eating duck ! So very sweet and colourful !
:D
:D Thank you Marianne. Nice to add a bit of cheer :D
Sure it's not an oozlum ? (sorry family joke)
I don't think it is a dunnock - the ones in my garden look much sleeker. My guess would be a female robin - my books rarely show the female of the species and the colouring is often quite different from the male. It looks very robinish to me (but then I'm new to this bird watching thing).
;D I think it's a Plane ;D It's a Plane ;D It's a Plane ;D
Are you sure it's not Superman Roy ;D ;D ;D
If you go here http://www.digital-nature-photography.com/nature/voegel/dunnock-photos.php
and look at the middle photo second row you will see it is definitely a Dunnock
MM
;D It's not ;D
;D :D ;D Hahahahahaha !! :D ;D
