Hello all.
I hope you all had a good Xmas.
I have 3 young fruit trees which I planted at the start of the season last year. They are approximately 5 feet tall now and 7 feet apart. I am thinking of starting two compost heaps between them approximately 3 foot wide. Would they have any negative effect on the trees (2 apple and 1 plum)?

I have had a compost bin below my apple tree for many years. I rather consider the tree likes it. But it is huge possibly as much as 5 metres tall and 8 metres diameter and also I have very well drained soil. I have another one beside some blackcurrants bushes and a jostaberry at my lottie and they are doing fine too.
That's one hell of a compost heap.... 5 x 8 Metres, how the hell to you top it up!!!!?

Its the tree size... :BangHead:
Yes it is the tree, my grammar is rather vague.
Not sure I would put a heap so close to such young trees. Fruit trees are too expensive to kill.
Personally I would have them away from the trees to get more Sunlight on them, but that's just me.
If you put the heaps behind the trees a bit would be better as I personally would like to see the heap 3ft away from the trees themselves rather than the 2ft if the heaps were dead center.
Thanks for your replies.
It would seem best not to have a new set of compost, but what if I moved some well established compost there?
