Title: Has anyone grown Duhdi or exotic cucumbers
Post by: Digeroo on December 20, 2012, 09:03:56
How do they get on in the UK?

Has anyone grown anything else different or exotic?

I like the look of Malabar cucumbers I wonder whether they will grow here.

Never tried, but I'd be interested in hearing about any other exotic veg you can grow here.

I am hoping to give the cucumbers a whirl.  I have prefected the straw bale method of keeping things warm so hopefully I can give them a good chance.  But sometime delicates just become expensive slug food.  And straw bales certainly harbour slugs.   My first couple of slug free years was such a pleasure.  I had all sorts rampaging about the place.

Not very exotic, but I've grown Chinese cucumbers.

I think Jeannine grew exploding cucumbers once. :icon_rendeer:

Had a go at growing Dudi type squash from Bangladesh (seeds kindly donated by Squash64).  These are lagenaria siceraria squashes with white flowers.  I got very close and they were flowering but then sadly just not producing because we ran out of growing season.  Squash herself got fruits (if I remember right).

This one needs to be started very early or grown in the greenhouse.
