I received my order of canes about ten days ago. At the time my plot was badly flooded, even in part of the area I had prepared for them. How long can I safely leave them in their packaging before I plant them please? Any advice would be most welcome.
This is exactly the question I've been meaning to ask as mine arrived last weekend when the ground was frozen. I'm hoping I might be able to get them in this weekend if the ground is ok.
The garden centre where I buy mine keep the bundles for weeks outside in tubs in compost. I bought some quite late last year and they were fine. If they are inside they might get too warm and start to sprout. You can also heel them in somewhere else and then replant them when you can. But they do not like being flooded.

You can even put them in pots and plant when the lotty is dryer ,I often pot up young rasps plants in autum and replant in the spring ,they don't seem to mind :toothy10:
If heeling in, do they still need to be done individually rather than in the "bunch" as they arrived? How far apart when heeling in to avoid the roots getting tangled, or will they not be growing at this time of year?
When I got mine I just stuck them in in bunches. They're not growing this time of year, and they're almost indestructible, so no need to worry.
