I am planning to plant some this week because it says you should put them in when it is cold but I think at the moment it could be too cold.

Good Morning

I think the problem is that it's too wet.

From what I've read, these over winter alliums dont like to get too soggy and right now my plot is a bog.

So I've planted up a few sets in pots in the unheated polytunnel to put out in the spring as a contingency.

You could do that with your elephant garlic, esp as the bulbs are quite expensive.

Because my plot preparation was not ready in time mine are all in pots as well as my normal type... they will go out in early spring.. I did it last year and got a great crop.. Dont molly coddle them - they need cold to bulb properly so plant and leave them in a cold frame of GH..

Some people suggest building a ridge and planting on top of it if the ground is wet  :happy7:

Elephant garlic seems to be unkillable. Mine flourished this year, while other veg sulked or died due to the waterlogging.

The reason Elephant garlic can stand more rain etc than garlic is it's not a true garlic, it's a variant of the leek family. Leeks can stand quite a bit of water.
