Hi all, I've just bought a tefal actifry, has anyone got one of these, are they any good and what else do you cook in it apart from chips, cheers.
I tried one a couple of years ago, luckily it was a friends as I gave it back and never bought one. My OH didn't think the chips were up to much, no crunch at all.
Will be interested if you have better success with it as it's a much healthier option.
Bella
Just be extra careful with the lid, it cracks near the hinge. I took mine back because of that and they said a lot had been returned. But it did make some lovely chips especially if you use some flavoured oils or coatings dusted into the pot. Sausages, meatballs, curries etc we made them all. Those mini roasties you get from the freezer were a treat as well especially if they were coated in goose fat. Keep your eye on it when cooking as the timer only lets you know when the cooking time is up. It don't switch it off. Don't bother with the healthy option, it's a marketing ploy, the more oil the better the chips, unless you like them soggy.
was going to get one of these a few months ago but happened to stumble across a tv program like watchdog and there was lots that got so hot they had melted the outside case, big fire risk
and as belladay Say's the reports were the chips were not that good so that put me off and i just got a normal fryer for £30 and saved me a few quid :tongue3:
Hi
I bought one ages ago on recommendation from my daughter, you can cook loads in it and don't use all the oil they recommend either, you don't need much at all. I cook fish and burgers in it, does lovely salmon and so quick and no smells in the kitchen either, just take out the paddle, you need to experiment a bit. alison
Cheers all, a bloke at work said his was really good until he dropped it so I've got it now and will experiment as Ali says.
I wish I had the money to buy a 'gadget' without researching what it can and cannot do!
Have fun. Tony.
Did you get it cheap after it fell off the back of a lorry Kev :toothy10:
Mum bought us one a few years back when they first came out. Worked great, and yes, as Ace says, be more generous with the oil for chips. Does great stir fries and curries. However, it hit the bin yesterday as it has gradually fallen to bits. The lid cracked early on and we had it replaced, then the turning paddle broke off, followed by the hinge again, and finally the handle broke. We researched replacing the broken bits but they were very expensive and tefal were very, very unhelpful. Now we have a slow cooker instead.
Well I tried it out last night and the chips were great
No chip pan smell in the house
Only used the oil suggested
Didn't fall off the back of a lorry Ace, £87 from Amazon I think
When you open the pan the lid flies open, so holding it and stopping it from pinging back should save the hinge.
