Title: Apache potatoes
Post by: goodlife on November 18, 2012, 12:04:06
So...have you grown them and what's your thought of this variety? Do they taste nice or are they just 'edible'/will do?

I did quick walk through our local Asda other day..and while I was my way to fetch the milk, I couldn't resist having a peek to 'discouted' veg shelf and they had Apache potatoes there.. :toothy10: Got punnet quite cheaply and its now put away for the spring.. :toothy10:

I've not grown them before - in fact I'd never heard of them before but they look like pretty potatoes!

I found a helpful description here http://www.dtbrownseeds.co.uk/seeds-plants-gardening/44698/potato-maincrop-seed-potatoes-apache (http://www.dtbrownseeds.co.uk/seeds-plants-gardening/44698/potato-maincrop-seed-potatoes-apache)
and you can get info about their disease resistance etc http://varieties.potato.org.uk/display_description.php?variety_name=Apache (http://varieties.potato.org.uk/display_description.php?variety_name=Apache)

They are variously described as second early and early main crop.

A4A's Tattieman doesn't seem to have them though so they can't be that great!! :tongue3:

I noticed quite few seed companies selling them...and they are not cheap neither..so my £0.89 for about 30 little potatoes sounds (and looks) like good deal for little trial run. They are nice and 'clean' little tubers with no obvious signs of 'disease'.
I now 'you should not grow potatoes from shop'....but...here we go...again.. :glasses9:
