Title: Help with copying files
Post by: bluecar on November 12, 2012, 14:09:46
Hello all.

I've been trying to move some folders to a USB memory stick. Each time I try by using the copy or copy to folder function it creates a shortcut back to the original location. Obviously, when I plug the USB stick in another computer the shortcut is not going to work. Have I somehow altered a setting? Any advice as to how I can get a full copy of the folder and its content on to the memory stick will be appreciated.

Regards

You should be able to ..
select the source folder, right click, copy, select the destination, right click, paste

I don't know what your files are, but I use a way which works for me. Open your file page, go start menu, then to computor, you will see the  storage device listed, then just drag the files to it. Basic but it works.

Maybe it is a short cut you are copying.

Right click it, select proporties, Open file location then copy the highlghted file.

Go to USB and paste.

Hello guys.

Thanks for your help. BritBrat, you nailed it. I was going to recent places and that contains the shortcut to the folder not the actual location. Mission now complete and lesson learnt.
