Lay them on the ground criss cross fashion when you start a new compost heap.  It allowes the liquids to drain away and not rot the lower levels.

Dried out they make great fire lighting sticks.

I expect I will cut back a lot of raspberry canes in the next few weeks. I had intended to stack them on a couple of beds as a sort of winter mulch to dry out then burn them around February and put the ash around my garlic and strawberries.

I've used old raspberry canes as 'pea sticks' before'...they'll do the jjob for one summer for any plants that require just some light support..or as row markers.. :icon_cheers:

Can old canes be propagated?

If so, could anyone spare me some?

I would willingly pay postage

Unfortunately old summer raspberry canes will die down totally....dead 'wood'. And as for autumn-type raspberries..well, those can be dug up with roots and transplanted.
