I can't remember the last time I had it, but it must have been when I was a teenager as I was on artic patrol in the navy and it was agony, the doc pulled it straight out as being in sub zero temperatures it might have cost me my life through lack of concentration. You had to be 100% focused up there.
But I woke up this morning with a slight nagging ache in my back teeth. Got an appointment easily as I was due a checkup and they brought it forwards a few weeks. After a lot of hooking and prodding about the dentist found the problem and booked me in on thursday to have it fixed. Since then it has hurt like hell and I have used up my daily quota of paracetemal. It will have to be whiskey from now on. I have had regular checkups and after the root canal work done a couple of years ago I have been careful about their care. How I have now got tooth decay beats me.
sorry about your poorly tooth, but look on the bright side, it must be nearly time for (y)our annual gin allowance!!! :drunken_smilie:
Me and my conspiracy theories Ace! Had root canal treatment many moons ago, so long in the dentist's chair for each one too - I can still feel the perspiration running down my back! I've been a regular since childhood and all through our children's lives, every six months. Until one day our dentist disappeared and there was this stranger. Never went back, have pulled two of my own teeth since. Plaque is there to protect our gums, I believe, otherwise why would nature have invented it! Every time I had the hygenist have a go I'm sure it made them shrink even more. Dentistry is a business and we mustn't loose sight of that.
Grumph and rant over.
Ninny
PS - not too much of the hard stuff either, as that only takes the pain away for a short while :sleepy1: :happy8:
Plaque really really doesn't protect your gums and nature doesn't "invent" bacteria or plague films - they evolve and not necessarily to human advantage. The idea that nature conjours stuff up just to benefit us is fantasy - Ebola, dysentery, aids and the million other nasties out there are surely testament to this. Nature is nasty and red in tooth and claw!
Dentistry may be a business (all medical care is to a certain extent) but it has saved my life (probably) on one occasion. I had a massive infection in the bones above my front tooth which required emergency surgery - They cut my gums, peeled them back and drilled though the to the infection and spent half an hour cleaning it and then sewing me back up. Such fun..
It didn't cost me a penny either.
Oh, what a night, hot, aching, no sleep. Having my flu jab yesterday could not have helped the situation.

Err, thanks for the advice, but I might give that one a miss.

Now you have started it, if you have a coat you should go and get it :toothy10: awaiting incoming from those youngsters who do not get it.
But blimey how did I forget about that :icon_cheers: That has cheered me up a bit. It is about time they raised the winter gin allowance, have you seen how much the decent stuff has gone up in price. I might sent a letter to my MP, he gets it as well, so he should support the rise.

Uh..I've had my share of that 'fun' last few years, and funny how dentists always have different 'opinions' about prices, althought it should be all set under NHS.
I'm looking forward for not seing my 'regular' dentist...she has gone to maternity leave and everytime I see her replacement..they are much better and do their jobs without trying to 'sell/force' other unneeded treatments.
ACE..if the pain get unbearable, before you have chance for treatment....pharmacies sell 'tooth ache gel' (can't remember name just now) that numbs the tooth (and rest of the mouth if you are not careful!) for few hours at the time. Just a drop on cotton bud..apply on the the tooth and let it dry out for a moment. It is a 'life saver' product and you don't need to pop as many pills then.
There is also the old remedy of a drop of clove oil on cotton wool packed around the tooth.
I had a new molar put in this year, a crown, as the old one broke (thanks I think to an incompetent filling I had, that weakened the tooth) - cost me not much as I have dental insurance but it is expensive. When they put that one in, teh crown next to it fell out!!!helpfully, and the dentist cleaned it out and put it back in and said mmmm that tooth there is starting to deteriorate a little, I wouldn't be surprised if one of these days it comes out. Then we will have to put an implant in (!!!!!!!!)) no bloody way, i would rather have a gap. I couldn't stand the idea of someone drilling into my jaw!!!
We get dental plaque because our diet is so rubbish, in places where they eat more natural food, (and harder food that cleans your teeth as you chew), cavities are much less prevalent. Everyone always remarks on the strength of the teeth from people in Africa - they eat no processed rubbish! And they nevertheless clean their teeth, usually with chewed sticks, wich thoroughly clean the teeth and gums. I don't wish that to sound a racist remark, I do have African friends who explained that to me, and they have lovely teeth (wish I did, mine are crap, due to careless childhood dentistry. Now my kids are at the dentists very regularly!!!).
Nearly there and the ache will be gone, chinese dentist, 2.30 :toothy3:
Good luck ACE. :icon_thumright:

Hope all went well?
Lovely job, turned out I needed 3 fillings and a scrape and polish, Still numb and dribbling trying to drink my coffee. At £48 a bargain. The painful one took a bit of drilling out and hurt like hell even after two lots of injections. Sore at the moment but I shall bathe it in whiskey later. Good for my diet though, too painful to eat so I lost 3 lbs.
I'm sure you were a big brave boy! :toothy10:
