Title: Whats been dug up this year
Post by: queenbee on November 01, 2012, 23:17:37
Anyone dug up anything interesting this year, not including bedsteads. old motor bikes etc. My collection of old marbles is increasing by the year I  have dug up more than 100 in the last few years.

Over the 4 years I've had the plot I've found a few interesting things, the earliest being a Neolithic flint core.

This year I've had a couple of buttons, and a blue glass bead that I think could be Roman.

Archaeology's one of my other interests, and it makes digging the plot that bit more interesting.

Hi Tom welcome toA4A.  I also get stone tools out of my garden.  I used to tell my children the stones were ancient tools as a joke until one day we went to the local museum.  My son took one with him thinking to debunk my tall stories and to everyones surprise they agreed they were the real deal.

Hello Digeroo.

It's surprising what can turn up in gardens and allotments.

As a site we regularly get Victorian bits and pieces, and loads of clay pipe stems. It looks as if the fields, before they were allotments, had 'nightsoil' spread on them, and that's how they got there.
