Title: Globe Artichokes
Post by: lottie lou on October 21, 2012, 20:57:20
Does anyone know how to collect seeds from globe artichokes.  I have collected the flower heads and dried them, pulled out the thristley flower but no seeds have formed underneath.  Just curious as one of my neighbours asked me for some seeds.

I suspect you might have picked the immature flower head.  That's the stage you'd pick it for eating, but for seeds you'd need to let it flower and set.  If not then have a dig about in the base of the flower and see if there are any seeds lurking - not unlike smallish sunflower seeds.

the flowers had died off a few weeks ago.  Will have a good poke around at the base of the flower.  I just pulled off the dead petals thinking the "petals" thinking the seed would be attached to them.  Thank you for your advice..
