I gues it depends on what you want to do with it.

We have a Kenwood Titanium Chef and both of us love it http://www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/All-Products/Food-Mixers-Kitchen-Machines/Chef-and-major/titanium-chef-kmc010-0wkmc01021/  there are loads of other models which are either different in capacity or opffer timing/cooking functions.

We use it all the time for all sorts of things and have lots of atachements - It aint cheap but I want the lifespan you got out of your Braun!

For what it's worth, claybasket,  I also have a much loved and used Braun food processor.  I managed to replace it just before they disappeared more than 10 years ago I think, then bought another one, when the first broke down, off e-bay, boxed  as new, about 6 years ago.  It is used often several times a day and i couldn't do without it, and dread the time when it ceases to work and I have to replace it.
So it is possibly worth you scouring e-bay just in case . . . . . ?

We're fans of the Magimix.  Our first one lasted about 30 years, and it was still working, if shabby, when we gave it away.  We've got a new and larger model now, but to be honest, I liked the smaller simpler one better.  You can certainly get serviceable second hand ones on eBay.

As BarriedaleNick says, the Kenwood Chefs are brilliant too.  We've got a second hand KM200 which does a great job of mixing bread dough.  I've got a mincer attachment only, but you can get a liquidiser and food chopper, so you can have all the food processor and mixer capabilities in one system.  The only problem with the Chef is that it's bulky, even more so with a bunch of attachments.

Oh, and spares are available for both makes even for obsolete machines.

I have got a very old kenwood chef with mincer and blender ,the poor old thing is so heavy to lift up and down from the cupboard as i can't leave it on the worktop ,I do use it for bread making ,but the processer mixed pastery, scones ,bicy mix and the shreading, a few yrs ago i would have hand done all that stuff but the dreaded athritis has now changed that ,I'll look on e-bay and may get lucky  thanks all Clay.
