Title: Easter
Post by: Mrs Ava on March 03, 2005, 12:31:39
As I am constantly dieting, and would bathe in chocolate if it were possible, I prefer not to receive choccy easter eggs from people, so this year, mum is buying my mushroom spores to grow brown cap, I think she said, mushrooms.

I wonder if my darling Ava would buy me a peach tree?  Problem is, I don't have a south facing wall to grow them up and altho my garden is south facing, I would struggle to know where to put a tree.  Do they grow vast?

Now, what to request from my skin and blister............... ;D

My mum had a panic when I last saw her and said I wasn't going to eat any sugary snacks in March. "What am I going to buy you for Easter then?" she inquired... Well really doesn't take much of a leap of the imagination!

... plants, bulbs, seeds, pots, cloches...   ::) ;D

PS - I thoroughly recommend the no sugary snacks thing. I have so much more energy, fruit tastes so much nicer and sweeter (I licked the teaspoon after spooning a little honey on the veggies to roast and it was utterly heavenly!) but this is only day three...

we don't do sugary snack, and certanlly don't do chocolate easter eggs.  Easter isnt like christmas here either - what are you girls like worrying about presents?!  We make painted eggs good friday which we'll hide ready for easter sunday when weather being good we'll have an easteregg hubt around mums garden.  Thats easter for us!  If I'm not strict about the chocolate its me that ends up eating bags and bags of mini-eggs!!

Be glad you can eat chocolate at all, for some of us it is the second most potent migraine trigger in existence (after citrus, so imagine what a Chocolate orange or a Jaffa biscuit does to me)
As for white sugar. I gave it up in drinks when it went up to 1 shilling a bag, so you work out how long ago that must have been ;D
Our children always had a big bar of chocolate cos they got more and money instead of choc Easter eggs. Now they are big enough to buy their own so we will keep our money! :D

Palustris - you're not alone. My dad is allergic to it. It gives him a really bad sore throat. He loves the smell, though. To this day, I think middle aged men look weird eating a chocolate bar, because I never saw my dad doing this!

NattyEm - I wouldn't care if I didn't get presents, but mum always insists on getting something. I'm not even a Christian, but I am a pagan, so I celebrate new life of spring.

We always have an egg painting competition on Good Friday.  It started when the children were small, but grew and even though they are grown up now, we still do it with lots of friends joining us.  Had about 17 people last year all sitting at tables with paint and paintbrush and various bits of craft stuff.  My brother who is a Teacher comes and judges.  He is very serious about it and goes through each one with praise or criticism and makes us all laugh.   Afterwards it is hot cross buns and coffee.  It is a lot of fun.  We still have chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday, which I love.  Know it is bad for me but love chocolate so much.  We don't really celebrate the religious event I am afraid.  :) busy_lizzie

Being a completely non religious family, easter is nothing more than a lovely long weekend off school and work.  The eggs are a bonus and something that we buy more out of habit.  In Essex, the kids are only having the long weekend this time, not the usual 2 week holiday - they will be having that in April instead as they have only just had half term.  As for the pressie situation, I find our family are constantly asking what the kids want for this that and the other, so I always have to have a plan.

EJ you could always ask your sister for an Aubergine.they are after all known as "egg" plants in other parts of the world! ;D Or a pack of poached egg plant seeds!! :D

Oh Eric I am with you, cannot eat dark chocolate in any way shape or form or I am in agony, but I can for some reason have the odd piece of milk chocolate, but not after 9pm!! One of my triggers are peanuts  :o and strong cheese, the type of cheddar the catches you in the jaws, which I of course used to love, oh and most sadly, red wine.  :'(  :'(  :'(  :'(

We love Easter and have a proper egg hunt, with home decorated hard boiled eggs, though I wonder now they are older wether I might get away with not having one this year! ;)

Yes I get the migraine after a bar or 3, I just love chocolate but sadly its not returned. Tried all the dried fruits ended up with a migraine twice as lethal, nuts are good but not for my hips...What can I eat? a girl needs some luxury once in a while.

I have heard  certain dried fruits are no go's for us Migraine peeps, especially apricots, though they don't seem to affect me.......so far!!!
Treats are hard to find, cos it is always what you really fancy, that you can't eat!!!  I find maltesers OK for me, and caramels. Seems like if I dilute the milk chocolate with summit, I am fairly OK. But I don't push my luck!
Val, I empathise with you, i have mates that eat choccie left right and center will no ill effects, makes me soooooooooo jealous!
Ice cream works though, Haagen Daas strawberry was a special fave when I was preggers all those moons ago!!!!  DP

;DYes its strange in another life, more years than I care to remember, when I was preggers, I had a craving in one of the pregnancies for mars bars, I couldn't eat enough of them and in those days you didn't get the titchy ones in a bag. 4 or 5 a day however many I could afford. and not a migraine in sight. It was bliss. ice cream is okay in summer but only with hot chocolate sauce this time of year. I'm making my own mouth water. Raisins affect me and obviously grapes which I also love. Life is cruel, the lads eat what they want when they want and don't put on an ounce, the girls eat like its poison and it all goes to their hips.Something not right in the family genes....
