Title: Grubs in strawberry roots
Post by: smudger28 on September 26, 2012, 17:13:57
Hi Guys

This is the second year I have found white grubs in the roots of my strawberries in grow bags.  They seem to eat the roots until the plant dies.

Here is a picture.  Any ideas what they are?

No nasty beasties like that on mine (touch wood), but I do seem to have a white coating on some roots!   Any ideas?    :confused2:

Cheers,    Tony.

They are one of the most annoying pest for anyone growing potted or container plants. Not least because most plants look ok until it is too late and the weevils have munched all the plant roots.

Have a look at my recent post in the "Top Tips" section and see if you can employ any of the suggestions there another year. :happy11:

I agree they are vine weevil grubs and they are a pain. I love growing plants in pots and these beggers munch the roots of the pot plants. At first the plant looks ok then next thing you know the top half of the plant falls out of the pot and if it is a windy day it is like tumbleweed,
