Title: Propagating perennial sweet peas
Post by: caroline7758 on September 08, 2012, 13:06:13
I got my perennial sweet pea plants from my mother-in-law's garden years ago. When she moved house she asked me if I could give her some of mine, but I seem unable to be able to get them to root. They don't seem to produce seed pods like the annual varieties, they spread (invasively) by their roots. Has anyone else had success from division or cuttings and if so can you give me some tips?

That's funny - I don't understand why you're not getting seed pods. What happens after the flowers die back, where the pod would normally grow?

I've never tried to propagate except by seed, so sorry I can't give any tips.

I would just buy a pack of seeds, I sowed mine last autumn, they are now 8 feet tall and in various shades of white, pink and plum.  Big racemes of almost Orchid like flowers.
