Now do it properly and go another spit deeper ;D

I did it that way once picking out every little bit of black root I could find. Just a quick hoe off the top from then on.

I moved to my present plot 12 years ago and have been trying to get rid of these ever since.   I mixed up a fresh 1 litre solution of Roundup and put a squirt of washing up liquid in it.   About 3 or 4 weeks ago I sprayed some Marestail and noticed last week they looked a bit dry and last night had another look and they appear to be dying off.   I can only assume it must be something to do with the washing up liquid being added.   This was a tip I got from another plotholder.

Buy some strong glyphoshate (Gallup 360), about £30, but will last years and get you many new friends.  It's dangerous stuff will kill anything, so be very careful, long, thick rubber gloves and goggles and store under lock and key.  Can be diluted of course to clear other weeds, but is non-selective.

Everytime you see marestail at about 4"- 6" tall, stand on it to bruise it and then paint it with neat Gallup.  The shoot will die very quickly, but more importantly it gradually kills the rooting system which can be up to 8 feet deep.  It took me a year to tame an out of control patch and another year to almost erradicate it.
