Further to my other thread about mulching it occurs to me to ask what is the best use for home made compost, what do you do with yours ?
A full dalek bin at this time of year yields about a third of the volume come next spring about a small dustbin full, so precious, so dark rich and sweet smelling. I wouldn't want to waste it using it wrongly through ignorance :)
Courgettes.
All mine gets used in containers for growing some stuff at home on my patio.
we have five homemade pallet boxes,it all gets spread over beds as soon as it is ready,we always need the room to create more.
I always seem to get a good crop of beetroot after I have used mine around them...
I mix mine with multipurpose for the tomatoes
As Norman Stanley Fletcher said, "I Dig a hole and bury it" ;D Coat ? ? ?
Cheers, Tony.
I put mine on the spuds.
Dig some into the runner bean trench, rest I dig into the ground for the other beans and peas.
Thanks all for that seems I'm using it as most of yous do, mixed with multi purpose for tomatoes or any veg grown in a pot and I also put some in a trench under my beans, actually my beans have been good this year for a change.
If only one could make a big enough volume to dig into the whole veg plot.
I supplement mine, with recycled compost, straw, leaves, grass clippings, comfrey, chicken pellets and green manure. Perhaps some manure but still very wary of aminopyralid. I still do not use my own compost for beans and potato family.
