Title: Strawberry runners
Post by: Poolcue on August 26, 2012, 14:35:11
First year of having strawberries and I need some advice about runners.
Some have already rooted in the soil so I have cut them off from the parent.
Can I move these at a later date?
Secondly how many runners can you take from one plant?

Not a master at this but I moved my newly rooted runners at a later date once they were well away , can't remember exactly how long it was before I  moved them but I did and they were fine .I took a max of 4 runners from each parent plant.

If you hold down the 'baby' plant onto the surface of a plant pot of soil / compost,  when the roots are well developed you can cut off the runner and it won't suffer any transplant shock.

It has been said that you should cut off the runners in the first year, it allows the plant to concentrate on root growth.
