A good size.  I remember a looong time ago before yet another Americanisation infiltrated our culture in the form of the pumpkin head, we used to practically break our fingers and hands hollowing out swedes for halloween!

Cheers,    Tony.

Mine are very small and noticed yesterday that leaves covered with caterpillars - not know them to attack swede, having said that they also have decimated my radish - first time in 30 years

:( Had 2 years of absolute disaster with both swedes and turnips; I love swede mashed with potato but have not had any luck growing my own.

I know they say to sow the seeds direct, but I never have any luck doing it that way.  I always start them off in my greenhouse in newspaper pots as this seems to give them a good start and then I just plant the whole pot.  It seems to work well

I used diatomaceous earth during the early stages and kept the plants well watered. They survived to grow strongly and I  harvested all mine yesterday, as I want the space. Total weight is approximately 25 lb from 12 plants. A couple of tennis balls and the rest are large. Much better than last year but I think the rain helped as they were growing. Now they are in a cool shed and tomorrow I start preserving by cooking or blanching and then dehydrating. Lol, I am glad the grandchildren like them
