Title: signing in
Post by: queenbee on August 20, 2012, 22:58:19
Since I joined A4A I have left myself signed in and never had to use my password or username, this last couple of sessions I have had to do this. I had to go back to my notes and find my password. Has this happened to any of you.

Yes  it has happened to me. I put it down to my version of AOL as I use this instead of Internet Explorer to access internet. I know it is not the best way of doing this but I am more familiar with AOL. I find I have to do this for other sites such as Facebook even if the sign on screen says 'keep me signed in'. :( It is very annoying especially when you are in a hurry. Has anyone got a resolution to this I wonder?

It only happens to me when I sign on on a new computer I haven't used before or a new one. Is it something to do with cookies?

Not at all au fait with computer jargon. The only cookies I know are the ones that taste yummy ;)

Cookies are just like little notes your computer stores.

When you go to a web site, your computer sends the relevent cookies to the web site, so the web site will know stuff about you, like what your account is, so you don't have to the site who you are by logging in.

If your cookies get deleted or disabled, then the site does not know who you are so you have to log in again.

If you have to log in everytime your cookies have probably been disabled, if it is just once then the cookie has just got deleted.

There is a new law about cookies, which means each site has to check that it is OK to use cookies. This mostly means that most sites have a message that says if you continue you are agreeing that the site can use cookies.

I think A4A is probably now illegal because of this law, but I won't report it, it's a stupid law anyway.

It happens very occassionally with me, and I can never remember my password and have to reset it.
