yesterday i went on to my lotty. and i found out that my 2 appletrees had been sprayed as well as the grass around them. the grass is now yellow so it is a fast acting weed killer. is there anything i can do to save my trees.
Without knowing what was used it is difficult to say, but a tree is less likely to be affected.
It is around the time to do the annual pruning so maybe be getting on and doing the pruning it would reduce the absorption.
However if the grass has already gone yellow it indicate it was sprayed a few days ago.
Have you any idea who/why?
To kill the grass under the trees..it should have been sprayed something that glysophate based weedkiller..in 'normal' weed killing strength is not harmful for woody growth like trees and shrubs though it can still has some effect but this time of the year it, when growth is slowing down it should not too much trouble.
BUT..for not knowing what weedkiller is used and what consentration...it is difficult to say if harm will happen or not.
There is nothing really you can do for now other and wait and see...suppose ensuring there is plenty of moisture in the ground will allow tree to soak it up and hopefully it will help keeping chemical diluted in its system.
Was the tree sprayed as 'all over' or just underneath. If it is just underneath..if is less of the worry.. ;)
i do not know what weed killer was used. And all the grass has gone yellow. The part that was sprayed is also near to my strawberry plants.
My first question would be , if its your lottie who was spraying without asking first.
To start of with it was part of our lotty plot. but was told that nothing would grow there fro some reason and was told to put our trees there. then we gave up 3/4 of it up. and was told by the sectary that the trees would be OK left there as it would become a communal garden and the trees would be still ours. but we did not know that this person was going to spray the ground. and we was not asked to move our trees or anything to try and protect our crops which is near to where he has sprayed.
I'm afraid like most gardening all you can do is wait and see. You might be fine if none got on the actual leaves. Are they still green now?
some of my leaves seem to be brittle and if you touch them they fall off. and as for my strawberry plants i can not give the fruit to my son. as they are near to the trees. this has made me so mad as i was not even asked o move them.
