Title: Really pleased with my wildflower patch...
Post by: kippers garden on August 15, 2012, 20:29:52
Inspired by the Sarah Raven program re wildflowers, I planted my own this year.  It's alive with insects.

I'm so pleased with it i've posted some pictures (15th August) and how wrote how I did it.  Here's the link:

You can see the pictures a bit better on the slide show at the bottom of this page.  Here's the link:

That's lovely- thanks for sharing. I sowed some wildflower seeds in my front grass and got nothing. I let the back grass grow and got lots of lovely clover, self-heal and various other small flowers, but nothing as lovely as yours! What seed did you use?

Thanks.  I used a mixture of seed from free packets of seeds I had been given over the last 3 years and I also brought a 'bumblebee mix' from Marshalls that contained phacelia, borage and red clover.  I'm really hoping that they self seed for next year.

I planted up small squares of various 'wild flower' seeds beside my allotment to see which would grow best in our type of soil.

The council came along and strimmed the lot -

AND I HAD PREVIOUSLY TOLD THEM WHAT I WAS DOING!

Cheers,    Tony.
