Title: 1st attempt at different veg
Post by: Spireite on August 14, 2012, 22:01:12
I  have managed to dig my small veg patch this week and extended it to about 13 feet square.  The previous house owners appear to have not done anything with that part of garden for a few years....
...so now I have bare patch of earth - apart from 3 wigwams of green beans which are finally doing well, slugs NOT withstanding.
I fancy having a go at Purple SP Broccoli, onions and garlic.  I know I need to recondition the soil...BFB I think (?) I know these are overwintering crops, so when do I plant?? I'm thinking onion sets as I'm not brave enough to attempt seed yet!
Any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated  ;D

You might have to buy some psb plants, if you can get some, bit late to start them from seed, I think. We put some bfb in before we plant them. Our onion sets won't be going in until september and the garlic a bit later. We grow long red florence onions from seed, always found them reliable  :)
