Title: freezing weather!!
Post by: Rox on March 01, 2005, 10:56:07
Hi everyone,

I sowed some Sutton broad beans outside in modules under a DIY plastic cloche at the beginning of February before the weather turned freezing cold. :o There is no sign of germination yet, and with the cold weather set to stay for the next couple of weeks where I live, I'm wondering if it would be advisable to bring them into an unheated room inside to get them to germinate. Or is it better to leave them outdoors, and sow some indoors as security? ???

Any thoughts/suggestions much appreciated! :)

I would be tempted to have a look in one of the pots to see if the bean seed has rotted  if they have been there since first of Feb.I know temp outside hasn't been enough to geminate them ..
Bean seeds dont take long to rot in a  cool damp enviroment
With luck they may be ok but i would just test one to see what is happening with them..Cheers Jim

Personally i,d leave them be; it won't be long now before you can sow some more direct outside. Where abouts in the country are you?

a couple of years ago, I sowed some suttons outside farily early and they all rotted. I then sowed some indoors, and they all germinated. That might be worth a try (if you have room).

Or wait until it's warmer and try again.
