Title: SP2 servive pack
Post by: simon404 on February 28, 2005, 21:28:04
Im unable to download SP2, apparently my operating system software - windowsXP pro -  is pirated. I'm surprised because I've been able to download windows security update downloads up till now. Any ideas other than buying new software? I've tried doing it from the disc I got from ms but same result.

Is there a particular reason why you need SP2 on there?  You should be fine without it.  I'm assuming it is actually a pirated copy?  If not you should go back to where you bought it from!

Simon. You can download updates from MS because their policy is not to look inside your m/c when you contact them for system up-dates, especially on security issues but attempting to download a complete additional package such as SP2 requires registration of your O/S with Micrp Soft.
You say your windows software is a pirate copy!! No-one can publically advice you what to do other than to get rid of it and get legal. Sorry.

I think it's one of those things called freebies that is not yet in Bill Gates's dictionary until now and been a long time coming.
From what I can gather he is trying to patch a few very large holes in the Microsoft software.
It has made it more secure and amongst other things offers a Virus protection plus a Firewall and I must admit is doing a very good job, popup stoppers included. :o
It does work with Pirates so I have heard :-[ ;D 8)

Roy, when we had sp2 on one of our machines it caused nothing but trouble :)  we don't have it on either computer here now.  I can't admit to being an expert on the reasons why though, my husband is the techie not me!

Ah well the against was that java would not then run on either machine at all.  Since I spend half my life chatting in java based rooms the balance was tipped and SP2 removed ;D
