Title: In the beginning and after

The lottie in the beginning

Five years later. Looking back from the far end toward the shed (with new roof), the cold frame is gone and now we have a greenhouse on the far end, (rabbit proof fencing in the veggie plot, not pretty but necessary)

The flower plot with the same old shed.

Thirty; three stands of 10 poles (4 on each side and 1 on each end), every year. Only one stand is visible on the picture. Three plants by every pole. Yes, we like green beans hahaha.

That looks beautiful.  I hope our lottie can start to resemble that after 5 years :)

Thats just how I would like to envisage mine in as many years, but with the vandalism we have seen so far, with no plants in as such, it looks like it may be a non runner :'(

So sorry to hear that Roy :'(  Ina these are just the photos I was looking for in my original thread.  I just love to see before and after piccys.  The work that people put into their 'little bit of heaven' always amazes me.  I just love to see the difference that they have made.  Think it stems from travelling by train many years ago and loving looking in other peoples back garden and seeing what different folk do with almost the same amount of space.  Some have beautiful tended spaces, others are deffo kid zones and some cant be bothered to even get out and clear the rubbish out.  Fascinating.

Did you say vandalism?
These were taken the first year of the greenhouse. Winter is the biggest problem when the canals are frozen over and thus creating a lot access areas onto the lottie complex. Now we take all the glass out every fall and put it back in every spring in the beginning of april. Lots of work but worth not having to pick glass out of the veggie beds till the end of days.

Nice improvement over the years,i am far from that but i am only two years on the road.Ina looking at your pics, why are so many allotments in holland near a railroad track? How is that in england the same or?????.Mine isnot but that is in holland an exception.I know other allotments in my hometown who are situated near a railroad track.

The quote below may answer your question Ruud.
The land of one small section of our complex is still owned by railroads, I think there are 10 allotments there, they just pay a small membership fee to use the facilities of the complex but no rent to our association.
I know the railroad lotties used to be free of charge to (retired) employees. Since not everyone wants to garden, they lend (or rent?) them to others. I don't know how it is nowadays.

Ruud :)

In England it was earlier the same policy as  Ina as written.
The land by the Railways...Cottages...House...
Road Crossing Houses...Allotments were retained for Worker from the Different Rail Systems.

The unused land was Given mostly over for Workers Allotments But later reclaimed for Moderization Expansions

My Uncle had such an Allotment in Barry South Wales
