Or at least part of it, there are another 2 or 3 kilos of small onions drying in the laundry too.
I have got them on the dining room table to dry! ;D

I didn't do as many as I usually do, only reds and browns, I kind of lucked out on echalotes this year, but I thought it was a good result from such a rotten season.
They look good ;D
As we took our onions up a bit earlier then usual this year the tops are still quite green, i need to now put them some where and i am wondering wheather to cut the tops of the tops of and store them on blue trays this year?, or should i still string them up with the tops still a bit green?
I trimmed all mine down, many were still greenish, but I was unwilling to leave them in the ground, with the weather so unpredictable. They are not quite dried here but getting there...
I've just lifted mine and left them to dry. The onions are OK, but the shallotts were hopeless.
My shallots were hopeless too., and the onions are looking small.
My shallots did really well this year.In fact ,the best ever. The onions aren't too bad.I haven't dug them up yet as they still have green stems. The garlic started off good but I had to get them out in June .most of the bulbs had split into cloves and I ended up having to throw them away cos they went mouldy.I did plant some cloves in pots in the greenhouse from a bulb I brought back from France last year. They formed nice usable bulbs although a bit smaller than the original.
Winter onions great but how long will they store
Shallots not nearly so good
Summer onions and Shallots don't look brilliant. :-\
These were planted from end of February till mid-March. I have never over wintered onions, not sure if it's really worth it.
I've got 100+ Winters drying on my mini greenhouse racking and I've used 20+ and given 20+ away, so I'd say for me it was well worth it. ;D
winter onions did really well for me too. Much better than my summer ones! The winter ones we started from seed were brilliant.!!!! ;D
You have just reminded me that I need to take my shallots up before Sunday as it's supposed to rain here again then.
My white onions are ok but my red onions are terrible, I haven't had any :o
Lots of our red winered onions went to seed but the seed sown long red were great ;D
My winter onions are really just used as a stop gap to get new green onions on 1st may each year. I plant a packet of sets in Autumn and by the time the main summer crop is ready to start eating they are basically gone. I also freeze them as we use them so we always have "green" onions available..
Reasonable haul Antipodes, about the same as us id wager, few more whites than reds, for some reason the reds didnt over winter as good as last term, and the extra 50 I planted got water soaked and gave up the ghost.
Shallots we pulled last weekend have been drying in the shed, but again not as plump as last year....just gotta accept our losses.or enjoy our few gains.... ;)
Gazza
I believe you should dry onions upside down with all the tops and roots intact, so the oils in the leaves and roots will then we reabsorbed by the bulb and it will prolong the time they will keep firm.
