Dug some sharps express and found for the 1st time Potato disease of some type.aint experienced any in our previous 2 seasons so im not up on what to look out for.
I did google disease and it said "scab" is a common type but not sure if you folk can confirm from the piccies if that is what is shown,it also said after peeling and washing they are perfectly ok to eat ????

looks like scab to me and yes perfectly ok to eat once removed.
Ours even store, once dried properly :)
Just a bit of scab, not a big problem.
some potatoes are more prone to it :), some years are worse than others.
It happens.
Not in the same league as blight by a long way.

Annabells disease free
Pentland Javalin disease free

Im intrigued as the sharps were mid row out of 5 rows and the only variety that has succummed to any form of disease,so if nothing else we have been fortunate that all the others have been fine.
maybe ,well give sharps a miss next term if it is prone to this type of disease.
anyway,thanks we will enjoy them peeled and steamed and happy that you can store them also.

Scab normally appears on potatoes when there is lime in the soil from a previous crop,it looks worse than it actually is,try not to grow potatoes where you might have used lime in previous years,IE for brassica crops like cabbage,cauliflower,sprouts or broccoli.
Some potatoes are more susceptible than others. We have naturally limey soil so scab is a contant problem.
Very pleased with Annabelle which has come out a clean as a whistle.
There are various potato databases around which give details of which potatos are resistant to help make choices.
