Title: Daphne cuttings - hardwood or softwood?
Post by: carosanto on July 13, 2012, 12:54:54
I accidently knocked off a small branch of my Daphne, and there is material for both hardwood and softwood cuttings.  I'll take both of course;  which work best for you, and what was the best method?

Thanks

Caro

soft wood and semi-ripe would be ideal this time of the year..though I can't see why not hardwood would not take.. they are just little slower to root.
I usually take all types of cutting when there is plenty of material to deal with and usually the semi-ripe takes well for me.

Not easy things to get to root, either types. You really do need some form of bottom heat and a close atmosphere to succeed.

.....and if you ever consider the saved seed route, mine is still only 18 inches high from a 2007 sowing.

would a polytunnel do, instead of switching on a propagator at this time of year for just one pot?
