I got me one of them newfangled Super7 Electric Windowsill seed propagators and it really got my tomato seeds off to a great start. I am letting them develop a bit further in the seed trays that came with the propagator before planting out, so the propagator itself is now idle. Do you think I can use standard plastic seed pots in the propagator to the same effect. Its only a low voltage unit - but dont want to come down to a mess of molted plastic pots.

All plastic will be safe. Tomato plants from seed in July? Where are you planning to grow them on, undercover somewhere?
Thanks Deb...you're right, I was very late this year but the mixture of heat and light we're getting in Herts has meant they have developed very quickly... they were sown end May but are doing quite well and I'm hoping to get something in a few months if the conditions continue. The question on plastic pots was for making best use of the propagator for next season... unless you think that something could be started now?

Chillies for overwintering? I ust use mine at the mo to hold my pot plants on- makes a decent drip tray.
Hi I use plastic pots in mine all the time. very useful for sowing a small amount of seed and for getting cuttings rooted.

It'll be perfectly safe for plastic pots as someone else has said. I'd expect it to have a maximum cut off temperature and it'll certainly not get so hot it would melt anything other than ice. ;)
