Title: Today's silly question
Post by: Poolcue on July 07, 2012, 20:12:07
I am growing some peas in a large pot next to a large pot of sweet peas.
Could there be any chance of cross pollination?
Or will the sweet peas just encourage insects to pollinate my peas?

Will it matter if they cross polinate if not saving the seeds anyway?,  I've done the same thing on the plot!

Most unlikely as sweet peas are lathyrus odoratus and peas are Pisum sativum.

Two different genus entirely ;)

Even better news - eating peas are self-pollinating long before their flowers open.  When they are about half size, they already shed pollen inside the bud.  By the time insects have a chance to get in, the job has long been 'done and dusted'.  This is what makes peas almost immune from getting crossed.
