I got these giant radish seeds from Lidl and they have grown in to monsters, like big red carrots. I think the packet of seeds cost about 25p and they taste really nice too, very peppery and they dont go woody like radish can when you leave them in too long.

Wow..they do look good. In continent pointy radishes are much more common than over here.
Good radishes you have there :)
Radish is such an underrated veg. Such a variety of different kinds with one of the longest sowing seasons of any crop.
Do they have the same effect as the smaller ones but to a greater extent?
Would you dare eat a whole one?!! ;) ;) ;)
(Look great though ;D )
I think if the radishes are large you can peel them and cook them like a root vegetable...they taste lovely!

or you could cut them like this - impressive ! - I guess it takes a little practice to get the angles right :)
HEY! Seriously great radishes 8)
Tell me, is the variety called something like 'Ostergruss' ?
I used to buy them every year from Lidl and I think that EJ did too, if they're the same.
LOVE them, and yes, I tried experimenting with them too - cooked them/ sliced and froze them - you name it, I did it.
Anyone - are they still on sale at Lidl(assuming they're the ones I grew) - if so I'll make a special trip to pick up some packets - Lidl's now out of my normal shopping sweep.
Thanks L.
And I thought size was not important...:)
Hey they look cool.

I'm going to Lidl this week, Lish, I'll have a look, I could do with some more for later on :)
Thanks Manics
btw I got the bestest tip from here a few years ago - leave one plant to go to seed - lots of really pretty white flowers followed by zillions of seed pods. Which, raw, are SO refreshing and delicious 8) ;D

I'm not sure if they are still for sale, because most of the seeds are gone from my Lidl now. I think it just said giant radish on the seed packet, so I'm not sure if they are Ostergruss! It definitely didn't say anything like that.
They were really juicy and peppery. I'd definitely keep my eye out for them next year. i wish I'd let one go to seed now, but I couldn't resist eating them all at the time.
None at ours, either
It's about time to be planting Winter Radish and mooli :)
I found the seed packet in the shed. They were called Ostergruss rosa.
Wow, that's inspired me to have a go at growing them next year myself. Thanks
They look great and taste even better thinly sliced and accompanied with lager.
Tried it in Germany some years ago, they eat them as we would eat crisps and beer.
Digmore.
There is still time to sow them now for a late crop in September.
