Have not seen a butterfly for weeks, not even the cabbage white which is usually prolific at this time of year. For the first year ever my solomans seal has not been attacked by the usual saw fly Caterpillar. Slugs in abundance but not even a ladybird have I seen. Snails have not been killed by the pellets as they never crawl on the ground they stay in the foliage for the whole summer. Anyone else noticed the lack of butterflies?
I saw one the other day, but yes, it was memorable in its rarity... Ladybirds were everywhere around March, but I've only "spotted" the odd one recently, and not seen many snails either.
my solomans seal has been decimated, saw loads of the critters yesterday. have also seen lots of ladybugs, but yes have not seen many butterflies and the annual butterfly count is due to start on 14 July till 5Th august
There must have been two around my lottie recently a nettle plant is covered in black caterpillers, perhaps Peacock.
