Hi all... I have planted my strawberries and courettes through a woven weed suppressant fabric. Unlike a material fabric it is a woven polypropylene bag that like a grain bag or like what coal and stuff like that comes in.
Anyway - (touch wood) I have noticed that there has been no sign of any slug or snail on the fabric at all. I have slug pelleted a few times and not one dead slug has been found.
So I think the rough surface of the fabric is a natural deterrent!! I have had a few strawbs eaten where the fruit has snuck under the fabric to mature - but not many at all. There are no snail trails that I can see so maybe it's the answer to our slug problems.
Has anyone else found this?

You've done well with your strawbs.
I used that some years ago....and I can tell you it didn't deter any snails..or slugs.. ::)...and then mice took liking of the membrane and started keeping shelter underneath.. ::)...and then came fox who was after the mice and pulled the membrane up in places.. ::)..and then came one very fustrated gardener who couldn't keep the membrane looking tidy and she took the whole bloody lot up.. ::)
I've bought that membrane for my new strawberry patch!!! ;D ;D ;D
Ive got mine in that stuff to.
The patch is full of the stringy bits that have frayed off it though!
Slugs and snails are crazy at the moment though and so slimy. yuk
