New to this growing veg lark so not sure if i should lift my earlies they are in bags and havnt got flowers out yet although they are there in bud. My main crop already have flowers on so not sure.
When did you plant them?
25th march
In the right conditions they normally take about 13 weeks, I planted mine a week before you and have been eating them for about 2 /3 weeks. ;D
Go on have a firkle (or furtle if you prefer) ...you know you want to! :)
And if you're unsure what it means...it's having a gentle feel around in the soil to hopefully find some potatoes.
Might empty a bag tomorrow then and see whats inside :)
I've just come back from the lottie and have dug up a plant of Charlotte.
Sunflower what kind of bags are they, can you cut a hole, like a flap to check if their ready and tape the flap back if there not quite there yet. ???
No not really, cheap ones from a shop called the works. The two varities are Rocket and Sharpes Express.
Rockets will be long since ready, they're the drag racers of the spud world....They might have gone past it a bit, have a habit of getting enormous and going hollow and not tasting of anything much when they're big.... quite a lot of us grow them but purely as ultra-first erllies... in pots in the greenhouse planted jan/feb for spuds in may/june....
I dug my first Rocket at the weekend- still small and tasty. I planted them on Good Friday or thereabouts- can't remember what date that was.
Firkled me first Charlottes out today, still got some good Sarpo's from last year!
I have just dug my first few Winston today. Decent size. First impressions seem positive.... the taste test tomorrow
Having got some greenish Lady Chrystls in a pack from Lidl (they were cheap, I was knackered) I've put them on a north-facing windowsill to chit ... adn there are some first signs of chits showing.... so they'll be a late planted opt experiment for somenew spuds come Christmas ...
