My courgettes were direct sowed a few weeks ago. One in particular has come up really yellow, with agreener edge to the leaf! And yet the plant looks very sturdy? I am rather confused as I don't recall this happening before. This year I have planted the courgettes on the site of the old compost pile so they are in very rich soil. There are also a couple of butternuts and some pattypansquash and cukes there, they are not displaying the same thing.
Any ideas? Or could this be its natural colour?
What varieties of courgette did you sow..or do you know what this particular 'yellow one is?
MMM let's see - I am not sure if they have all germinated but the choice to pick from is:
Striata d'Italia (that you gave me), Sunbeam yellow pattypan, "Soleil" which is a yellow courgette, and Black Beauty green courgettes. Do you think yellow courgettes could give yellow leaves??? I have not noticed that in the past...
It's most odd - I have a pic if I can get my pics off my camera today... The leaves do look quite healthy, there are about 4 leaves on it so far.
Yellow courgettes do tend to have yellower leaves than green ones.
Soleil frequently has very yellow leaves, quite ornamental.
Aha! I have grown Parador yellow type in the past but couldn't get those this time so switched to Soleil! It's a new one for me. Here I was thinking it must be ill! Oh well, it is getting on very well then as it already has excellent growth and is starting to get that "clumpy" bit in the middle which usually means that flowers will soon form.
Went to look last night and my paradors are yellowing up nicely. Otherwise looking good. ;D
There is a pic of my courgette bed here:

Can't seem to rotate the pic properly! The strange yellow one is bottom right...
I have green and yellow courgettes and both sets of leaves are pretty green. I'm ignorant, though, of varieties so yours is probably the way it should be. I'm fascinated with the amount of courgettes coming up on my plants. They're still only a couple of inches at their biggest, but there are clusters of them around the plants. I'm so looking forward to tasting my very own produce. :)
This set me thinking so I checked the varieties and it turns out my yellow is a Yellow Taxi, and my green is an Ambassador.
Yellow Taxi - great name!
My neighbour already has small fruit, mine were a bit late being sown so no flowers yet but I think it won't be long...
Both my plants are literally busting with courgettes. I'm dying for them to reach the four or five inches the card recommends cutting at. I'd better start researching courgette recipes. ;D
